What is the difference between the Microsoft 365 plans for small businesses?

The main tiers for small businesses are Business Basic, Business Standard, and Business Premium. Basic covers web versions and email. Standard adds the desktop apps. Premium adds advanced security features. Most small businesses land on Standard or Premium depending on their compliance and security needs. We help you figure out which tier makes sense for each role on your team.

Is Microsoft 365 data backed up automatically or do we need something else?

Microsoft 365 retains deleted items for a limited time and has some recoverability, but it is not the same as a true backup. If someone deletes files or email permanently, or if data is corrupted by ransomware, Microsoft's built-in retention may not be enough. We recommend a third-party backup solution for any business that cannot afford to lose its email or file history.
